New Documentary Explores Generational Trauma of the Holocaust

Holocaust survivor Ivor Perl lived with the trauma of losing seven siblings, his mother and father, and his time at the Dachau concentration camp for more than 70 years. But he never talked about it — until now.

"The Last Survivors," which airs Tuesday, April 30 on Frontline, chronicles the stories of survivors who have been keeping their experiences to themselves for decades — and what that has meant for their families.

"I think that survivors are very conscious that they don't have time left, and in many ways, they're in a more reflective space now than they have been in the past," director Arthur Cary tells The Takeaway. "They've finished careers, their families have grown up and moved now, they're more isolated than they were before, so I think they're more vulnerable to memories of what happened to them in their childhood."
